Bit fed up! 3 weeks ago the check control lights up saying check brake circuit - brakes are working fine, check control comes and goes. 2 weeks ago brake light fails, bulbs replaced.

Then the check control brake light circuit comes on and compleley disables the brake lights from coming on at all. Checked for forum common problem for the car. Fetched a new brake light switch, unfortunately not compatible for my car and had to order the part from BMW. Hubbie fitted it today for me - picks me up from work and tells me the problem is cleared.

Get home get in my car to find the interior lights are not working at all and not responding to even manual operation. Fire up the car to a cascade of check control messages, tail light ciruit out, brake light failure.

Half my lights are working on the tailgate. The interior are out including the footwell lights. Fed up! Where do I go from here, particularly quickly as I need the car the weekend - my husband would say today - seems as I'm getting him to drive and pick me up from work (people can't tell I'm braking other than applying the hazards) - . Yes he has checked the bulb housing there's no corrosion or contact problems he can see.

Will check the fuses (again - did do it the weekend) but assume the interior lights are fuse related?

other problems - the hard top roof rattles like no tomorrow, main beam is down on the passenger side (and bulb changing is not going well after the brake lights), soft top always needs a helping hand on the final close, electric mirrors don't work

Over all however the car drives great looks great! Can't drive without rear lights and the roof rattle is so bad I fear if I bomb it down the motor way it will fly off

If you have a 3rd brakelight check this, connections bulb and if it's in the boot lid make sure the wiring hasn't split or broke where it goes from the body into the lid

As rumple said, it sounds like it's the boot lid wiring. Take a look at this: http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/...k-what-t52071/

3rd brake light is working along with the off side, no problems with central locking, not sure if the boot lid wiring is or would be the fault if the 3rd brake light is currently working since the brake light switch was replaced

The bootlid wiring fault can cause a multitude of problems with electrics !!!

Your central locking might be working today, but it might only half work tomorrow.

For the sake of 3mins, check the bootlid wiring !

Do your interior lights come on (manually or by open door) with the sidelights/headlights on?

I'd give the rear cluster a good clean up and have a look at the wires that go from the body to the bootlid
