ok i started to fit some footwell lights, and used mess's guide..well with a little change...so heres what i done..
1st i run a wire from the footwell light to what i think is the (switched earth) from interior light, then a wire from the same footwell light to a power sorce(cig lighter) i did this the same to the other side... where did i go wrong???

this was similar to mess's guide, which is here, can anyone see anything obvious that i have done wrong?? (i didnt join one footwell light to the other, but the way i done it done the same thing??

I ran a wire from the switched earth as it came into the footwell, then into the footwell light and then to a ground. I then ran the second footwell light in parallel.

When the interior light comes on, the 'switched earth' sees 12V flowing through the lights, and your new lights become the path to ground.
I placed my lights in parallel to keep the bulbs bright.

Circuit items can be in series or parallel, so in this case:

    ................... |---------------Footwell light 1-------------|
    Source ------..... .................................................. ......---------------Ground
    ................... |---------------Footwell light 2-------------|

The lights are connected to same supply and ground simultaneously, rather than together in line.

EDIT: Ignore the dots as the post formats itself to ignore white space, so dots mean empty space
