Are you sure it's been properly wired up to the correct wires? The unlock and lock wires may be connected but maybe not powers by the switch live or earth?

What do i need to do to wire it up? I bought the car and was like this, would just like to be able to unlock and lock the car without having to put the key in the door

you need to find where the wires are for the central locking part of your car, find out the correct colouring of the wires and make sure theyre fitted correctly...is it a aftermarket kit thats been added or was it from factory?

Worth having a read of this thread - http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/...3g-ews-t39173/

If it's a factory BMW alarm, the answer is probably in there somewhere.

May sound silly but is the alarm switched on at the siren?

That thread covers pretty much all the BMW standard fit remote alarms - Might help if you can post a photo of your fob so we can identify it.
