Just got up this morning turned the key and nothing, only drove the car home this morning about 6 hours before. All electrics are working, checked battery etc. Cant seem to hear a click from starter, any ideas ? Could it be the imobiliser ?. Is it worth disconnecting the battery?

    Cheers
    Ian

If you suspect the starter then you will need to get a test light and check for voltage at the solenoid wire when you turn the key.

Forgot to add the clock stopped working at 5 this morning, which would have been just as i would have started it to drive home and now i can't adjust it using the buttons. All seems a bit weird.

    Cheers

As above do you get a full set of ignition lights?

If you get none, do you get interior light?

Does central locking work on either key or fob?

Clock is on a permanant live so would point to a clock / fuse failure if in isolation.

Having the luxury of a voltmeter I would check battery voltage first, then check battery voltage at the large starer terminal the battery lead goes to.

And as above the trigger wire needs testing, very important!

And for safety reasons I would never, with handbrake applied and car out of gear, use a wire from the live terminal to the starter solenoid terminal to trigger the solenoid and test functionality of the starter. Course on a 6 cylinder the starter is easily accessible no idea where 1.8 is.

No warranty of any kind implied or given.

Well after tests the fuse had blown in number 31in the box, don't know what caused it but here is the problem.

It is a 5 amp fuse and the RAC man put a 15amp in which proceeded to melt the wiring and fill the car with smoke when i turned the ignition on

Its now at Bmtec Manchester to see what caused the fuse to blow and get all the wiring replaced not happy.

    Cheers
