    Hiya,
My 318is has been the subject of many threads on this site! This time it broke down just round the corner from my house while I was dropping off a work mate. Turned the car off to let them out, then tried to turn it back on again and got nothing...

The ignition power comes on, but can't hear the fuel solinoid going nuts. The airbag light has been on for nearly 2 weeks now, and I just wondered if these plucky Germans had fitted kill functions for in these situations, i.e no service, oil etc to prevent damage to the car, or my head if I crash?

I have power at the componant end of the ignition, but haven't checked the actual starter. I will assume a problem with the relay or motor if the computer isn't capable of ruining my day..

have been to the local garage to ask for their reader. The bloke there used to have a 318 and seems to think that even if it was reading an error code it would still be something electrical stopping me. Got work tonight so will carry on the search tomorrow.. relays fuses starter points etc.

That bloke needs to live in the modern times. The ECU is still powered when the ignition is on and also, it may tell you if there is something wrong with the EWS.

Can we just nail down the actual symptoms please?
When you turn the key to start what actually happens? Do the ignition lights dim or fade away totally? Does the starter turn?

when i turn the ignition the lights don't dim, the radio stays on etc.. the starter motor is not even attempting to turn. I think it is the starter relay, but cannot find which one it is in the fuse box? Have checked the fuses, and they are all intact.

you need to check for power with a test light at the solenoid wire when the key is turned.
