Have mot shortly and my horn doesnt work :(

The old slip ring when connected used to sound the horn when i turned the steering wheel but not when i pressed the horn, now that i have another slip ring i does neither.

I have triple checked the part numbers, and spoken to bmw directly and have assured me that the part they supplied is correct. Is there anything else i should be aware of?? and/or any other way of getting aorund this??

Check FUSES & the Connections at both ends. Also test for current at horn end when horn is pressed.

did you change the steering wheel completely??

some slip rings from different wheels won't work with standard wiring(if you have swapped for an M-tech/M3 wheel), you can get a retro-fit kit that as far as i know includes a little bit of rewire trickery, but it costs a lot!

Does the horn relay operate when you press the horn. Its in the fusebox in the engine bay.

the horn works fine as i have tested it, the problem is that it doesnt work when i depress the horn on the wheel, it originally had a 3 spoke steering wheel with airbag, but now has an mtec one without are bag, and the slip ring for one with airbag is mega bucks!

can i bypass the wiring anywhere to make it work??

not a chance....The sliprings need to be connected with a specific module in order to work.

Those modules only come in the Retro-fit kits with a new wheel and are fecking b*stards to find in scrap yards

There is nothing stopping you connecting a wire to the horn and running it to a switch that is accessible to the driver as a temporary measure

I have had two looms in my car that have both had air bags and I only have a non air bag M-Tech wheel. I recently managed to suss out how to get the horn to work.

I will try to remember to take photo's tomorrow evening and post up what you need to do as it is only a matter of modifying the wiring

Please PM me tomorrow at some point to remind me as I am very busy working on my coupe at the moment
