I've tryed to have my alarm coded with a fob the dealer supplied with no luck. So i'm thinking of fitting in a toad ai606. I am pretty good with electrics (fitted alarms to my previous cars).

I want to know if anyone has removed their 3tews alarm from their e36? All the wires are black and i've been told/researched that if i unplug the alarm the ecu will lock itself? Is this true?

and could I just leave the old alarm in (never gave me a problem cos its never worked ) and fit the toad alarm over it.

or is their some sort of harness I could plug into the standard alarm and get labeled outputs?

    Thanks

Removing the alarm will not trigger the EWS or lock the ECU, the alarm has no connection with the actual EWS/DME/ECU what so ever. You will need to make sure you connect any relevant wires though as the alarm acts as a switch between 2 wires, stopping the car from starting.

I took the plunge ronnie and cut all the wires and the car still started

I've installed my toad alarm and everything working, headlight activation, proximity sensor, and auto windows. I'm pretty happy with it

I followed the wires and there wasn't a immobilzer on the factory alarm so there was no wires to join up, but where they had made splices into the cars loom I was able to figure out what they was for so that helped me quite abit. The only problem I have now is that the drivers door doesn't lock, must be the motor I reckon?
