I have a 96 p reg e36. I have purchased some lexus (generation 3 rear lights). I unplugged the old original lights and put the lexus ones in problem being every time i turn the ignition on it blows the fuse also my foglamp light lights up on the dash even though they are not on. The only instructions with the light says for all vehicles without check control (buld failure indicator on dashboard) the following mod is reuired to the right hand (drivers side) block connector on the vehicle wiring. See pic 1. It says the two red / blue cables need to be bridged together in order for both tail lights to function correctly. This is due to the fact that some models are fitted with check control.

The only issues being the colour wires and positions vary from their diagram look at pic 2 for my car wiring block

Please help as ive tried linking the two red / blue wires but nothing happens, it must be two other wires that need linking together.

First of all, I take it the fuse is blowing without you linking any wires out, so can you tell me what fuse is blowing?

That fuse is for the indicators. Wire is blue/brown in your pic. Blue green on the other light connector. Something must be wrong there. That will need sussed first.
The blue /red wires that need linked are for the brake lights but that wouldn't cause a fuse to blow

The wires on the car wiring work perfectly on the original lights, i dont understand when you say something must be wrong there, ive just tried them again and the drivers side reverse light comes on on the light but nothing else, and the rear fog light on the dash without the light actually being on then the fuse blows, ive just tried the original lights wired on and they work fine.. what would make the fuse blow then as its only the lexus lights that seem to be doing it

The pin positions are probably different on the new clusters, so one of the light wires may be connected to earth on the cluster.

yes, with each lexus light bulb you can follow the wires to the cluster adapter. But how do you tell which one is earth? also how do you identify each wire from the cars cluster?

Can you check which wire comes from each bulb and what each bulb is for (tail light, reverse etc.) and trace them to the adapter. The earth would connect to the metal which is common to each bulb.
Sorry, I've never seen inside a lexus light. Maybe a photo of the wires would help.
i take it there's not a wiring adapter available for the lights to match them up with the Bmw harness
