    does it move at all?
there can be a few problems, a bang and it drops is from a runner wearing out and the regulator popping off.
going up and down automatically but stopping at the wrong point is from synchronisation, often from when the battery has been disconnected, so needs to re learn where the top of the window is.
to do that, you need to inch it up to the top, then hold the switch down for about 3 secs, and it'll remember that stop to aim for.

if it moves a couple of cm, stops, and goes down, the runners are too stiff, so it needs greasing, or realigning as it's activating an anti-finger trap.

if it jerks mm by mm and refuses to go anywhere, the sensor magnet has fallen of the motor shaft, and it can't tell if the motor is working or not.

if it does absolutely nothing, the motor is probably jammed and you'll need a new one.

Does it go the half inch up and down when you open the door?

There is a switch in the "striker plate" the door catches on. I think this is the only thing openeing and closing the door had to do with the electric window.

Of course it could just be a loose or broken wire and the slamming of opening and closing jogged it.

You coule eliminate switches by swapping them but might of course end up with problems because of that
