    hi i have a 316 compact and i have put a 2.8 engine in it with wiring loom and ecu but it wont fire can anyone help

    Did you also fit in the ignition barrel and key from the donor car?

    Your cars will have EWS so you would most likely need the key and barrel etc from the donor car.There is a transponder in the key and if the ECU doesn't get the correct signal from it then your car won't start...I'll try dig up some more info on EWS

    You can leave your ignition barrel and your key but will need to remove the chip from the doner cars key and put the chip into your key. You will also need the EWS module from the doner car.
    The key chip, EWS module and ECU are all coded together. If these dont match up the car will not fire...

    As I said, the chip and module are just plug and play..

    what if i can't get the key would i be able to get all three items from another car

    Yep. As long as the ECU, EWS module and Key chips are from the same car you shouldnt have any probs....

    how easy was the conversion as am thinkin about this for mine did you have to change the full loom or just the engine bay loom

    You just need to change the engine loom. As long as both vehicles have EWS. The engine loom plugs into the round X20 connector under the bonnet. The clock also need to be changes if you are converting from a 4pot to a 6 pot...
