Right done the above and there is voltage at back of ignition switch at red wire and at black/yellow wire when key in turn position so all well there! as for the other 2 on immobiliser there is only 12v on 1 black/yellow wire ! and if i jump the 2 black/yellow wires together then the starter turns over! so that means its immobilised then!?

any advice how to go from here??

i wish i knew what the previuos owner did but he is just saying he never touched it the aa looked at it! but thats rubbish!:(

Is there any other way of telling if the antenna ring is picking the key up?

Remove the antenna ring from the ignition barrel, put the key through it and tape into place. What happens when you turn with screw driver now?

This thread to me seems as though you are asking us to tell you how to by pass the EWS (Electronic Watchdog System) We will not give out this information. We know of bypasses but they do not apply to all models/years of BMW.

Do you have the logbook for the car and is it registered in your name?

There are 3 components within the system that have to present and functioning correctly in order for the vehicle to start.

I had EWS problems when doing my conversion and in the end had to replace complete vehicle wiring loom, steering column and ignition barrel

Well said A20, it certainly does sound like the O/P is wanting to bypass the EWS.

During the time I have had the M3 engine in my 318is I have had to replace the EWS module and two ignition keys

If you have more than one key then try the others.

If still no joy you will need the codes read to determine which part of the EWS system is at fault
