Ok I swapped over my standard BMW sterio harness with the slide plug on thE end. Now I copied from the wiring from my car, matched up wires with new plug. But only to be left with extra wires??? There the speaker kind of wires. Not sure what year the new harness came from , but it had pin 7 in already which is ibus .. Which I needed. Just wondering what to do with extra wires??? Is this why I get radio interference when turn hids on??? Also get the same when I put on DVD headrests??? Please help sort this issue?

Hello mate, are gonna need WAY more details than that to be able to help!
What is it your actually trying to achieve at the end of the work?
Why the need for a new harness?
What exact wires are left over? Pic would be good but colours would suffice
If it was a straight swap 17pin to 17pin then something has def gone amiss!
With this info hopefully we can point you in the right direction!

    Andy

hello andy, all im trying to achieve is to tidy back up the wiring and to replace the broken harness slide clamp /connector.
needed a new harness because it had been butchered..
the wires that are left over are audio(will take pics this weekend when i set work on it again)
it was a straight swap, and i just met up the wires that were left on the rest of the harness when i cut it back some...
this harness had pin 7 in it already(i bus) my old harness never had this because it was m bus!
so thinking this might have something to do with it. dont know..
as well as having wires just doing nothing,my other concern is the radio interference im getting when i put dvd's headrests on
and if i only turn on my hids without the dvd's on??
i have earthed the cd changer(in boot) to the sterio harness? im thinking of all possibiltys that i could have caused..
i dont know anyone that dont want paying to try help me sort it..garages ect..
ok it does not stop the car from running and some see it as not a problem. but it is,and it should not do this..im terrible with things like this..
if you can help on this its appriciated..
pics to follow in couple days.its still in the fitting process. testing..before all made permenet..
    cheers.....justin

    Ah ok no worries.
If you find you have a spare yel/brn and yel/red plus probably blu/brn and blu/red then they spliced together with the front left and front right feeds as you have a high and a low range speaker on each side at the front. On most of the harnesses Ive seen they use little blue jointing bullets almost but are quite a way down the loom so you wouldnt see them when just swapping the radio.
As for i-bus, that will have no impact on things, on our 96N 318iS it had a yellow i-bus wire present as standard in pin7 even though, as you say, it had no function.
Im afraid Im of less help when it comes to the interference. When did it first start? It sounds like its something recent?

ok...so if i do a continuity test from the spare wires to the pins on the harness, and get a connection, i just link them to that wire and so on??

No, if this is the case there will be no continuity yet as they wont be joined.....each pair of wires will feed a separate speaker.
Their point of contact will be at the splice about 200mm from the harness.
If you wanted to do continuity then it would be from the end of the spare wire to the front speakers but that would be an arse as to get to the ones on the doorcards the doorcards need to come off.
Best bet is get me a pic of two over the weekend and Ill direct you from there!
