The cable you haven't seen before looks like a head unit to cd multichanger control cable , possibly Sony looks like the 1 I pulled out of my car , if there is power stereo will light up u only need to plug that block in for starters as the earth is in that aswell ,doesn't matter about speaker wire block

Sorry mate - been in the garage today....

just read the latest posts... did you check the fuse???

Do you have a volt meter or circuit tester? If not, you can get one from Halfords pretty cheap... this would be the easiest way to check for voltage.. basically, if you get one of the simple ones, it looks like a small flat blade screw driver with a wire coming off... in the handle of the screwdriver is a small bulb. Connect the wire (normally has a crocodile clip on the end) to an earth (I normally use something like the hinge check plate inside the door jamb) and then poke the tip of the screwdriver in each of the 'sockets' of the black block with the red and yellow wires coming out of the dash.. with the ignition off, only one should be live, with the ignition on, there should be two....

I can't see the remote (small blue wire in dash) being an issue as this is generally only used to supply a trigger for things like amps etc.

The random cable coming from the dash is indeed a changer cable as has been stated previously...

On the back of the new head unit is a small 10amp fuse (next to where you'd plug in the cable connector block) check this too... pop the fuse out and you should be able to see a wire between the two prongs.. make sure its intact... I've known these to ship blown.... Hours of trouble shooting and missed the most obvious thing!!!

Thats all I can think of right now... will update if I think of anything else

why do i think the blue remote is also used by alpine as a power up also not just for amps etc

are they like the old vauxhalls where switchable lives like red/yellow need to be swopped over as its doing my head in trying to remember now, surely someone on here has fitted a alpine stereo to a e36

Right... That blue is just amp...

It's working not 100% but it's got power and I can play disc's!!!!!

Gus/Andy as one of you mentioned the connector to the unit to the bits in the dash...

The red is a connector wire.... Not mentioned in the manual about it... All is working!!!

Just need to run the mic through somewhere????

How do I get a cable to go behind the air switches and OBC then to the tray?

i would keep the mic flush near a vent as it will pick your voice up better than lower down-i did this with an old kenwood

if it was me take headunit out,obc out hand in from underneath and feed from headunit down, might need to cut little hole and feed it through into the tray

go on tell me what it was

That bit Andy why it's not 100% is because I have no mic or iPhone connection lol

The red one needed to be connected to the other red one....... And another colour... So trivial why it didnt have power

    Prob this pic is better

How does all that come out... The OBC and air controls?

the obc -small flathead to the side and mine out and move up and wiggle it out

    heater leave alone

just pull headunit out inc cage so you dont cut your hand=connect mic wire to the back of headunit and feed down to obc area or where you want to put it-left hand up and right hand feeding wire down but its tight.

if it was me i would just remove headunit and feed wire to the vent area and mount it there-quicker, easier, more chance of people hearing you
