Hi guys, i am a new bmw owner and after buying what i thought was a cracking buy, i am now having a right pain in the arse.
As per the title, i bought a e36 328i coupe. I had the car for a week and the starter packed in so i changed that. With a lot off f'ing n b'ing i got it done. The car started no problem then i was advised to rejuvinate the batt with an optimizer. After doing that, i put the batt back in. The car wldnt start, not even a click from the starter. Now it is at a m8s garage who has bmw diagnostics and he has told me that the ews unit is buggered and that i will need to go to bmw n order 1 via the log book. Also he said if that doesnt work then ill need to buy a new key also and then if that doesnt work then the car, new ews module and new key will have to go to bmw to get reprogrammed.
Could anyone shed a little light on this or could anyone let me know if i can bypass the ews without going to the expense off the module, key and maybe labour costs at bmw?

Any help would be gr8 as i have had the car 4 weeks and have only drove the car 4 times..... Not happy

    Cheers Scott

Obvious I know but have you tried a new battery and have you checked the engine to chassis earth?

Does the car have an alarm / immobiliser system - Check here to ID...

Have you checked for power at the starter motor solenoid wire again to be sure?

    And tested the ignition switch?

Sounds like when you have reconnected the battery it has activated the immobiliser. The 3T system isn't very user friendy and programming the fobs (if you had one) requires specialist kit.

My first suggestion is that you unplug the 3T module and then try to start the car. If that fails number all the alarm connections (all the wires on the 3T are black) and cut them one by one and try. It might not work but it will eliminate the alarm system from the possible reasons the car won't start.
