Hi everybody, this is my first posting, so here goes.

I bought a 328i 1995 E36 coupe with an intermittent cut out problem about 7 days ago as a learning project. What would happen ,the car engine cuts out after driving a mile or 10 miles sometimes and the console warning lights would all flash on and off, it then it suddenly stops.

The hazards work and side lights, turning the ignition key gave no dash lights at all, then after 10-20 mins it all suddenly comes back to life and can be started, tho it still tries to cut out, but pushing the throttle pedal sometimes prevents it from cutting out? I also noticed a couple of days ago the immobiliser siren T3 was missing.

So far I have check codes, replaced crankshaft sensor and throttle position sensor, fuses.
I am thinking its to do with the immobiliser siren missing might have something to do with it, I was thinking that the last owner removed it hoping it would cure the problem, but the system may still be active and faulty.

    Update as of 27.05.2010
I ve changed the engine Earth cable which was very frayed, made a big improvement, only cuts out once every journey.

I have noticed two melted 12v supply wires coming from connector 963 558 15 pin black connector under the glove box part of central locking and maybe EWS. Has anyone got detailed circuit diagrams as Bentley Manual is limited and can these terminal blocks be repaired/bodged up or is it a new loom only?

I hope someone can help me find the problem.
    Thanks for reading this post.

Problem was ignition barrel connector not plugged in securely enough

Does your car have EWS? I should imagine it will as yours is a 328i but I need to be sure, does your ignition barrel have a antenna ring around it(plastic looking ring that sticks out and shrouds the key slightly)

Hi, Thanks for replying and I'm sorry for the slow response as i've had trouble logging into this site last week. Anyway, yes it has an antenna ring around the ignition barrel and is quite loose fitting I noticed.
    Cheers
