    Well, I took a look at the wiring and while the black rubber outer is worn where it makes a right angle when you close the boot (near where the cable disappears into the boot to go to the lights and the lock mechanism) and there's a slight tear in it, I was unable to roll the outer down. I'm slightly reluctant to start slicing the think black outer away as I'm no auto electrician. Think I might just be better of taking it to a specialist to sort this and the other niggly problems I have with it.

    Many thanks for info,I have a E36 coupe 1994, 325i, 104567 miles y/day started blowing c/locking fuses stripped rear boot harness and found two wires (white & blue /yellow) the plastic cover had gone completely and the wires starting to fray,soldered and re-covered with insulting tape all working ok.
