hi all, first of i'd like to say hi as i'am new to the forum.was wandering if anyone could help,i've got a e36 320 coupe on a mplate with a window fault, all was fine up until last week when i put my window down it worked fine but will not go back up,so first of checked out the fuses and they are ok,then tried the opposite side and that works,so checked if the switch was faulty and thats ok,so took the door card of had a quick check of the wires but they seem ok,i can hear the motor when pressing the switch down but not up so took the whole mechanism of to change the motor, got a new motor and its still the same, any help on this would be much appreciated.thanks

Had the battery been disconnected or power lost for any reason in between putting the window down and trying to raise it again?

I had a similar problem with one of mine. Did it make a loud clicking noise before it stopped working altogether? I found that when mine stopped working it was down to a couple of cogs not connecting properly. This was fixed by replacing a hard plastic spacer.

Hi, the motor is connected to a black box and the plastic washer/spacer is under this. It keeps the spindle in place and stops any sidewards movement. I've marked where it goes on the attached picture. Before I stripped it all down I removed the whole lot from the door and window and plugged it back into the power supply to test that the motor still worked, and it did. But, I noticed that the black plastic part attached to the motor was flexing. I stripped this down to find that the spindle was moving around in it's hole. I found a spacer to fit, greased it up and put it all back together and back into the door. It's been working perfectly since with no trouble (touch wood!).

    Hope this helps.

I'd inspect the wiring loom for damage where it passes through from the car to the door

Have you had the battery and alternator checked yet? I believe Halfords do a free inspection

That's alright. The diagram was taken from here, http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do if you've not seen it already. It's a really useful site.
