ive previosly posted my problem with this called horrible alternator
    i replaced the following
    power sterring pump
    water pump
and 14 months ago alternator (reconditioned)
    new belt

ive noticed when i started it up the idle wheel is slighty more forward than the alternator and the alternaot wheel is slightly more back all the stuff lines up correctly but..
when started the belt moves like back at least 1 tooth and when i stop the car engine it makes a clunk noise..
like bearing inside or clutch do these have clutches inside them...
the belt is nice and tight hardly no play in it tentioner is new and the idle wheel is 14months old
are these idle wheels suppost to sit quite forward or is it the alternator.
when spinning the alternator you can hear it and when you grab it quick slight turn left, right it makes a clunking noise .
garage told me its surpost to make that noise to catch the bushes

any one got a clue for this because my belt is slowly fraying once again....

Do you mean is is supposed to make that sound? Probably the bushes catching the comutator.

Would like to help but you might need to re-type the problem more clearly

it all lines up but when belt is on and not running , but when the car is running you see the belt move back slightly on the idle pulley but on the alternator it moves forward slightly doesnt line up as in all line up and i presume the alternator isnt surppost to make any noise at all and ive put a small belt on.
beacause it kept slipping and jumping up onto the alternator and tentioner kept moving.
so thats why i put a smaller belt on surppost to be apparently 1060 6v so i got 1050 6v and i checked it again last night the tenstioner slightly moves under heavy revs,
its realy doing my nut in now bin 6wks this problem and its not right plus a garage cant suss it out not going to bmw itl cost loads

If you take the belt off, then get hold of each pully in turn (inc tensioner), see if they all spin free, with no noise (dry) at the same time, check for play.. I.e movement on the bearings, play in the shaft.. It could be that the bearings have gone in the alternator and it the magnets holding it together, did you change the tensioners at the same time as the belt? As they do seize from time to time.. all so check the mounting hole and make sure everything is tight and no casting broken.. Good luck

There you go, that need changing... Sometimes with a recon unit you can get a bad one and if its making that noise, then its no good.. what may of happened was the belt was a little to tight, if so, it could knock out the bearing of the altenator..

well when i put the correct belt on its 6pk v rib 1060 (this is size) from bmw fitted this and the dam tentioner moved like it were too slack,
so that why i reverted to a smaller size 6pk v irb 1050 10mm small for the tightness..
    good proper tight

does this mean i should go 5mm bigger and get a BRAND new alternator gona cost a bomb

i like it when people reply it makes me much more sainer

should i stay with a tighter belt or slaker belt?
    obviously get NEW alternator....

plus just need to ask no alternators make noises if there ok..???
