My drivers side lock is playing up just like it did on my old E30, feels stiff and wont lock if you lock from passenger side or boot.

Is this likely to be a lock barrel mechanism failure? If so, could I install a remote central locking actuator and keyfob to bypass the problem?

Zircon have you tried covering the key in grease and working it in and out of the hole

It may also be worth removing the door card and greasing up behind also.

Are you familiar of what the mechanism behind looks like? I have a couple of units that I could take a picture of if needed (Once it stops raining

It is possible to just work off of the remote but I personally would like to know what the cause is before opting for that decision

Thanks bud - I did spray some white lithium grease in the mech a few months ago and that is non-water dispersed so it should be fine.

I havent taken the card off yet but I may have to. Its not my favourite job!!!

From my E30 I remember there is a little square metal tab that breaks off. Thing is, it is a right fag to have to unlock the car with the key in the door which is why I fancy bypassing the barrel.

It's like me having to turn my rain senstive wipers on when I get in the car, they just don't come on by themselves.... I mean I have to press a button and everything.

Funny guys - ever tried finding the barrel in a pitch black carpark when it is pissing with rain?

Much easier pressing a button on a fob 10 feet from your car believe me, but you wouldnt appreciate the difference having remote c/l.

No Zircon, you are right, especially when it's pi**sing down....

We are only teasing you, I have remote c/l via an alarm on my E30 too - probably because a previous owner discovered the same problem as you

I thought you might have been teasing - honestly I feel like I am driving a horse and cart sometimes with the lack of 'extra's the original purchaser opted for.

Im surprised I dont have a manual choke.

Funny enough I disabled the alarm on the Touring because it started playing silly buggers so I know exactly how you feel

Lol - no seriously, I was in a bad mood the other night - you know when you wont accept that you are wrong?!

I will get to the 100 posts at some point soon, but I figured I may as well make use of your knowledge rather than throw my toys out
