First thing to do is to check the fuses and then to do a binnacle test-do a search for Rym's guide on it using the search facility Then check the wiring loom going into the bootlid as the cables there can fray and cause a short circuit...if nothing then under the passenger seat are ground terminals that can corrode and cause problems......Still it may be that you need a new cluster which you can pick up fairly cheaply from ebay

The loom in the boot was the main coarse of the problem, they were rejoined and checked by the AA and seem to be ok.I had someone do a diagnostic check and he told me to change the module which I did but still nothing,so would the clocks and gauges have blown but still give me the lights on the cluster?

Well thought I found the problem.......all was ok the cluster worked great, but went to lock car and central locking did'nt work.I changed fuse which blew straight away,so put next size fuse in (stupid idea) got in car next morning to find no speedo, fuel gauge and mpg clock working.Put the correct fuse back in and then replaced the cluster again, and there was a pop straight away and no speedo, fuel gauge again....I done the cluster test and that worked ok,when I turn on ignition the fuel light comes on and stays on and the fuel needle twitches slightly ..............anyone got any ideas please

I have the same fuel gauge problem as you. It is diagnosed as a failure of the fuel tank sender. This is what I had and my garage tried fiddling with the connector to the sender (common solution to this problem) and it created a voltage spike and that took out my cluster. The fuel gauge reading zero is deffo due to the sender failing. You need to find out if it is a connection or if the sender itself is dead.

I just had to replace my cluster with 80k on it for one with 140k. I am naffed off.

    Up the 'port!!
