Think that might be the case....gonna stock up and work on it tomorrow!
So frustrating, removed and fitted a new steering rack today in 2 hours, doddle by comparison, yet a couple of wires is beating me!

Have looked all over the net, think i've read so much i've confused myself. Had another go earlier just trying one wire at a time on the remote but think the module is dead now, was clicking before when the remote buttons were operated doing nothing now, didnt blow any fuses nor the inline fuse on the remote. Going to invest in a better system (with alarm) specifically for BMW's and get it professionally fitted, will stick to what I know
Thanks to all those who posted and tried to help on this one

Just found this or would have replied earlier
Have seen similar systems where the actuator from the "new" remote was fitted into the drivers door.
All it did was manually lock/unlock the door by pushing / pulling the lock button.
existing central locking then opened all other doors.
Very simple - hope the explanation makes sense
