There is an IGN live in the wiring to the radio HU

Aha! I thought a radio one would be available.

Thanks again guys for everyone's help . Like I say, I couldn't find anything different about it so I was really curious as to what the hell that wire was supposed to do.
I take it now, without the feed, the alarm would go off if I was driving and opened the door or something?

I shall find an empy road in a minute and have a play.

If you don't hear from me ever again it means it went horribly wrong.

In my car the Blue/White (Shielded) wire is spliced into Blue/White wire at Pin 21 of connector X13012 (ZVM Central Locking Module). This is the feed for the tailgate unlock.

I could press the fob as much as I liked and it didn't arm when I was driving.

So with that wire disconnected, that alarm stops working ?

So BMW, themselves, put your alarm in, and SPLICED the wire like they did in your photos ?
    That is disgusting.....

It's a dealer fit alarm, the joins are soldered but just wrapped in tape, not the best imo.
But as for that wire, it's made no difference.
The alarm works, arms and disarms with the fob etc and works exactly the same (seemingly) as it did before I cut this wire to swap the climate boxes.

My friend (auto electrician) is going to try and get hold of the 3g mk1 wiring diagrams and see what this wire is supposed to do. I think that's the only way to see what the hell is going on as I've racked my brain and can't think of any reason why it had been spliced into where it had. Not only can I not think what the heater has to do with the alarm but why they spliced into that side of the plug is also questionable as it meant the wire had to be cut when you un-plug those multi-plugs.

I appreciate that it does what it is supposed to do - But even still, for a "dealer fit", that is disgraceful !

Keep us informed, you've got me intrigued !
