    Hello,

I filled up my car this afternoon and i noticed when i turned the ignition that the fuel gauge only went up to a little over the 3/4 mark. I did fill the tank till the pump was cutting out.

    Any ideas?

    thanks

This is more likely to be a fault with the pump cut out at the garage than your fuel gauge. Try filling up at a different pump and see if it does the same thing.

hmm it took 60 quid of petrol, thats from the light being on till pump cut out.

1l = 1.16 so that would be about 55 litres. Is that ok?

Your sums are not quite right. £60 @ £1.16 per litre = 51.7 litres, let's say 52 to make the sums easy!

Tank capacity is 70 litres (15.4 gallons) of which 8 litres is the reserve. If you used a couple of litres from the reserve so it was down to 6 then added 52 you'd only have 58 in the tank, a good 12 litres (over 2½ gallons) short of full.

It could also be that the tank vent pipe has become blocked or has collapsed causing the petrol pump to cut off early. Try another pump first though, one at the back as the front ones always get the most use.
