Same problem here mate, I've got the same problem in the drivers door lock. They key will lock/unlock all doors from the drivers side, but from passenger side or boot it won't open the door.

Im thinking the motor may be faulty, i'd be interested in knowing how you'd test the motor without takin the bleeding panel off!

imgona take the panel off and have a poke about tomo .tbh i dont thinkn its the motor as it locks fine and i can hear the motor working and locking all the doors off the key.iltest the input to the motor and see if it gets a pulse/signal into it .if i test that and theres no pulse then il b back on asking what to check next

E36 door motor is a very common problem, the front door motors are a 6 wire and hence when the key goes in the passenger door it signals the other doors to lock and the physical action of the key turning the lock assy is why it prolly locks from when the key is in the pax door

you can't check the motor with the door card on but its a 2 torx screws and door clips to come so is a 5 min job

my guess is change the door motor (its only 45 quid ish)

changing the motor is also a 5 min job once you know how ..gl

Right keefy thanks for the info. I'll be on the hunt here if someone can sell me a used motor. £45 seems abit pricey.

I've always had bad experinces with beemers and interior panels, I can never get them to fit right once I take them off bar the glove box
