bought my first BMW a few months back.

a black 320i full black leather with only 69k on the clock (its a 1994)
    i thought i was a good buy at £1100

well anyway i went away for 2 months and so the car was sat on the drive over the winter and the battery went flat. After using a starter pack to jump it i ran it in and all seemed sweet.

but today, 5days after getting it started, when i went out to start it the key fob would not work, the light on it lit up when the buttons were pressed but the car did not respond.
its a Serpi Star GR420 alarm/immobiliser with a grey and red 2 button fob (square with one corner cut)
without being able to use the fob and turn off the immobiliser i cant get the car started at all
i did a fair bit of googling and tried some stuff like key fob resetting but nothing seemed to work. only thing that seemed to help at all was to do a double lock\unlock on the passenger door. after doing that the ABS, seatbelt etc lights would come on when i turned the key but the car still would not start.

any1 have any idea or at least a way to bypass the immobiliser so i can drive the car. just as well i was at home and not a few hundred miles from home

thx a lot for any help/tips

    ok thx for the info.
i have taken out the DME and found it dry as a bone, I also swapped out the DME relay for known workings ones but still nothing. I rly need to get the car moved so I was hoping someone might know a way to get round the immobiliser as im pretty sure that is the cores of the problem at the mo and until i can discount that its were im looking for now.
The car has a Serpi Star GR420 alarm/immobiliser but i cant seem to find any info on then rly or how to reprogram the fop (it could be that i suppose but if ur battery goes flat while out there must be a way to get the car started.... hidden key pad etc)
It is my car, i have the V5 in my name so there is no reason to think i need this info to help me out on my next car theft job!
If u can help and feel this info should not be posted in a public forum pls email me at seb.poole(at)gmail(dot)com
    Thank you

Well the immobiliser unit will most likely be wired up behind the glove box, so have a look there and see if you can suss out which wires need to be rejoined to wire out the immobiliser/alarm.

Do you have any lights flashing? alarm sounding?

Have you checked for fuel and spark?

hi and thx for the reply!
i just put £65 of fuel in and im sure spark is ok as i parked it up on a night and the next day it just did not start but its cos the immobiliser wont disengage (im pretty sure) so the DME never lets the engine even get to the point of sparking.
no lights flash. if i disconnect the battery and then reconnect it it makes a single beep and all indicators flash once. if i disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected the alam goes off but very quietly for some reason, i was not sure it was from my car at first.

Just because there's fuel in the tank doesn't mean the engine is getting any.

Do you have a red light in the car anywhere to indicate the alarm/immobiliser is still active?

    Read the guide again.

The Serpi Star alarm is not a BMW alarm, although the fobs look the same as the BMW 3G system. You should be able to just cut the unit out without too much difficulty. Read the guide regarding the door lock / double lock signal.

the red LED light just in front of the gear shifter is lit up all the time solidly. now i seem to remember that it flashed before but i could be wrong.

i read all the guild a few times over and tried all the stuff with double lock/unlock but nothing seemed to work. im also aware that my alarm is not a factory one but it was on the car when i got it.
i still think its the immobiliser thats at fault but its funny that the double lock dont seem to work
i think ill have to have a go at cutting the immobiliser out but im no electrician so it could be fun :

Before you go any further you are 100% sure your battery is good and is holding charge?

If you are then you can remove the alarm if you wish as follows...

Disconnect the battery, follow all the wires from the alarm module to the loom and cut them out, there should be no wires to splice or re-connect.

Reconnect the battery then lock & unlock the car with the key.

well im not sure it 100%. i went away for 2 months and it went flat, i got the car going with a battery pack jumper thing and took it for a short drive. not long enough and it went flat again but i bumped it to get it started again and took it for a longer drive. all seemed cool till one morning, about five days from first start, it would not start due to the key fob/DME/immobilier issue. i was working on it i left the door open, and so the light was on and it drained the battery again so i took it out and got a charger and left it on for a day.
maybe i should see it i can borrow a good battery and test it.
