hi folks,im new to bmw.sometimes when i turn on ignition,it will say code on the odometer.then have no gauges at all but car still drives ok.think i may have traced it to boot lock.as sometimes if i get out open and close boot, they come back on.its not a major problem, but very irritating.if anyone can help me out id be very grateful.many thanks.also sometimes if i go to open boot lid, when i press button all doors lock.

Someone will be along in a min to ask you to re-title your thread in line with who rest.

Back to your problem. How do you know it's the boot and not just the opening of the drivers door / jogging it from the slamming of doors?

Sounds like a loose connection to me.

Your right, it does sound like a lose connection - Maybe like a broken wire between the bootlid and body ?

Yep, just can't see why any of the circuits in the boot lid would have any interaction with the dash board cluster.

Is the trip reset button stuck down? It could be running through the instrument diagnostic test...

Oh, and you have an E36 by the way, not an E35!
