gotta be honest steve, i was gutted, was pleased with my effort, but the joy soon disappeared when it went wrong again, thats life eh!
i remember i was in portugal in the lorry once, and it conked out, would not start, and every single warning went bonkers on the on dash display.
the daf fitter came out, and in the end, even with there laptops plugged in, they tried everything, but the faults didn't match what was shown on the laptop. 2 and a half days later, one of the fitters found a broken wire behind the steering column, daft eh!!!
thats why i think i've gotta admit defeat, i don't really know what i'm looking at, so hope a pro has a better chance, we'll see!

I've got my fingers crossed for you that it's the fusible link.

hi ronnie, thanks very much for that, that could well be worth a look, i noticed the link etc, when i had the seat out looking at battery etc, gotta be worth a closer look, especially with the symptons it causes, very similar to what i've had thus far!

well managed to swing a last minute day off, so gonna be out there 1st thing laying around with the fusible link, i'm not quite beaten yet, i'll certainly give it a go.

kind of ironic, the car has been a dream since i've had it, its a great drive etc, i've recently put it up for sale, as i'm going back trucking on the rock n roll work, so the car decides to now play up, and i've got two people interested in it, ha,bloody ha, sods law eh!
thanks everyone for help thus far, much appreciated

well, i'm still scratching my head.
went to the car this morning, fired up straight away, windows and doors all fine but i'm thinking, well, whilie i'm here i'll check fusible link etc. so disconnected battery, and took the fusible link apart, looked pretty good, but stripped it down, and gave everything a good clean, and wd 40 on it all, (i'm getting quite good eh!!!) then cleaned a few connectors etc, and bit more spraying of wd40, then put it all back together. turn the key, nothing, windows stopped again, doors won't lock off keyfob, even though alarm arms nooooooooooooooooooooooo.
then i had a brainwave, all this seems to happen, when the boot has been open, or, boot shut, but lock for boot, in open position
so started playing, now, if the boot is down, but key in open position, i press the fob, doors lock, but instantly ping back to the open position, but alarm is armed??? so, i tried this, boot shut, with the key in the locked position for the boot, press fob, doors lock, and stay locked, alarm arms fine. unlock on fob, car starts, windows and everything else works.
tried this 12 times, and everything is fine, so the whole thing has me totally stumped. i'm assuming if there is a prob, its in the boot lock/wiring area, as people hv hinted at already
so, even though its fine, i've got a guy coming to view the car this weekend, and wouldn't want to sell it, and the prob starts for him, a week down the line, if he buys the car. so i'm gonna pop to my local bmw indy now, as i want suspension checked out, and whilst there, i'll get them to investigate boot wiring/lock etc, and see what happens?

Keep us posted how you get on. It does seem to stem from a problem in the boot wiring....

popped over, car now booked in with them thursday, to be looked at, kind of ironic, as since i put everything back together, and the boot lock, is in the locked position, all has been well, still getting it checked out though. picking car up saturday, as couple of minor bits also being done, whilst its there.
