    Hi Guys,

Recently I've been experiencing some problems with my 5 series BMW and was hoping someone may be able to help.

The car is fitted with an alarm/immobiliser and because of other problems (gearbox problems not related to this) I disconnected the battery in an attempt to clear the cars memory to try and get an idea of correct fault codes etc.

When I reconnected the battery the indicator lamps stayed illuminated (not flashing like hazards but permanent like headlights). Now my question is i've currently lost my owners manual etc and searched the internet but cant seem to find out which is the indicator relay, can anybody point me in the right direction as to which relay it is? When i press the hazard button but indicate it doesnt flash or click.

I've tried the fault code procedure of pressing the accelorator peddle five times and reading the amount the light flashes but this reports 155 (not a four digit code).

Because the immobiliser is supposed to be disconnected I cant be sure if its something the car is supposed to do as like a warning or if its an immobiliser fault as some wires are still present...i dont want to rule out the immobiliser completely.

    Thanks, Steve.

Try in the front power distribution box (engine compt. near bulkhead). I think it's the furthest relay down on the left.

I havent been able to check right now due to it being late and the cars parked on my drive and it will annoy the neighbours but will check in the morning.

I've been looking on the internet and the relay pictures Ive found look simular to one I removed yet the indicators were still on, in fact I think i tried removing every one in that box but they remained on so i'm starting to think the auto electricians that by-passed the alarm system have done something to cause it to happen. The alarm is still connected but they added their own relay as part of the by-pass.

I will check again in the morning and leave an update on progress later in the day.

    Hey,

Ive attached a photo of my box as if i was standing in front of the grill, if its the bottom left then does that mean its the green one on my car?

Thanks for all your help so far.

Try disconnecting the hazard switch mate and see if that makes any difference. I know some alarms that tap into the hazard switch to flash the indicators.

Thanks, I'll give that a try in the morning.

I know that the alarm is a Meta Systems alarm and it looks like a pro install. At present if I just connect the battery all hazards remain lit and both arrows in the dash are lit up but not the light on the hazard switch. If I press the switch it lights up but is permanent and nothing else changes which is why I thought it may be the alarm.

    Did you change your username?
Anyway the diagram I was looking at does not agree with your photo. On the diagram(for a 95 model) the position shown was the one where your photo shows a rebase with no relay fitted.

Nahh didnt change but couldnt remember my username ages ago (thought It was another BMW site i was a member of, my mobile was signed into the wrong account and posted as that user).

Thats where I've been getting confused, its a 1994 and all the manuals Ive had for it look different to what I have. Theres no writing on the cover either to give any indication. Same goes for the box under the seat, the relays are different to the digrams ive found on the internet.

You could check if theres any click from any of the relays when you switch on the indicators and try to locate it that way.
