Hi going by my sig you see im have an e36 (and a fine one she is lol) but I have a problem at the minute, You see I have had the car for a while and i knew the electric windows werent working an if the did it was once in blue moon so when it was working i left it just in case in conks out.

So the other day my folks drive car, and not knowing about the window problem the winded it down as luckily it worked for them, but when they got back to house and tried putting the window up it stopped working

So i have been pushing all the buttons in an out, flicking the cut off switch (under/beside the steering wheel) and have now took out the comfort relay to check the solder joints but they seem fine

From what I can see I dont think there is any power getting to the window switches (it has 4 electric windows) but they dont light up, also the mirror adjustment no longer works also the sunroof has stopped working as well

Any help is greatly appreciated as the window is lying open right now an im hoping it dont rain :(

    Thanks

Sunroof and windows at the same time is usually a fuse or in older E36s like yours the comfort relay...

But it sounds like you've covered that already. Did all the problems happen at the same time?

Thanks for the reply mate, I gave the old relay a good looking over an couldn't see what was wrong, as in solder joints where fine, so a note to everyone your comfort relay might look good but it might have just packed in ( although my car has 169k )

So i just bought a new one, well got one out of another bmw lol but it now works fine, I think I should make a guide for people with pics

    Thanks man!

Hi man yes it could just be a dodgy relay, as mine looked fine no crack splits etc etc so I guessed it must just be the relay, yeah try another one or buy on out of the dealers if you really have to ( round the £20 mark, altho this would come in handy on a rainy day as in windows being stuck lol

Before you buy new one, perhaps try some contact cleaner ( available from you motor factors/ halfrauds etc)then try it in, you never know
