Hi All, I'm new to the site and to the BMW Fellowship.
I recently purchased a E36 318i on a '93 plate that just needed some TLC, which it's getting by the bucket load.
My question concerns the BMW 3G Alarm/Immobilser. I've identified the alarm system as being the 3G type after reading a excellent article on this site, contributed by member "Billywhizz1984", if I remember correctly (I forgot to Bookmark the thread).
Anyways, as I said, I've identified the system, learned that it has a static code, and has a back-up battery in the siren. Can anybody please advise me whether;
(1) This system will lose its code if the vehicle battery is disconnected?
(2) What is the function of the back-up battery in the siren (i.e. is it there purely for the sounder should the vehicle battery be tampered with?)
If it is liable to lose it's code, will I have to contact BMW to learn what the code is, as there was nothing included with the vehicle documentation regarding coding?
Any help or advise will be gratefully received.
