does anyone know why my dashboard lights and rear registration lights stay on once i have taken my ignition out and lights switched off??? it's becoming a bit annoying as i have to unplug my battery in order for it not to be drained each night. further to this my key is different to my boot lock so cannot lock it once baterry is off!! i though it might be a fuse or relay but i have no idea how to tell or which one it is. i have a mannual so if anybody could direct me to the correct page id be very greatfull, thanks (car is an e36 3.20 - 1992)

Sounds like the wiring at the boot has broken and is shorting out. See here. e36 boot wiring. BFUK

I had exactly the same problem with my E46 and a friend who got an 840 cheap because it had massive electrical problems was chuffed to find every wire broken and various shorts on the boot lid rubber tube.
So it seems a bit of an ongoing problem for BMW.
