Hello just checked the tow bar on my Bmw the wiring all there but just needs connecting up. The tow bar was of a original other bmw 520i e34 on g reg. Now its on a 520i e34 j reg it was swapped over by the last owner.

Its got 7 wires coming out of the main loom wire on the tow bar. So its just a matter of wiring it up which I can do but need to know which wires go were etc.

Any help would be good will get the colour of the wires shortly

Have a look on-line mate.. Google instructions for towbar wiring.. You will get a diagram of wire colours and numbers..
And then its as A20 RYM says... Trusty testlight and maybe a mate just to touch the brake peddle to confirm the feed.. As i am fairly sure you can't run that fast just yet.
    Hope this helps mate!

Thats good mate... From memory all wires should be the same colour.
    12(N) Wiring Colours

Pin No - Wire Colour - Use

    Pin 1, Yellow, LH Indicator
    Pin 2, Blue, Fog Light
    Pin 3, White, Earth
    Pin 4, Green, RH Indicator
    Pin 5, Brown, RH Sidelight
    Pin 6, Red, Brake Light
    Pin 7, Black, LH Sidelight

These should give you an indication.. But always use a test light or a know trailer board to double check your work, and before making any final permanent connections.

Hello I have been around some scrap yards in Wrexham were there afew bmw with tow bars my models.

Mine with 1 plug and 7 coloured wires looking at it basicly there joining in the loom on the left side of the boot. Also the colour wires are basicly joining in to the same coloured wires matching. So this shouldn't be a problem to wire up then.

I wired my E36 328 recently, most of my wires are connected to the off-side rear lamp cluster.
Can't remember the colours, but if the list above is right..
    Earth first (white)
turn car sidelights on, wire up r/hand (or both) sidelights (black, brown)
find the other wire that goes to your stop/tail bulb, that should be brakes (red)
turn on right indicator, wire up Green indicator
I needed to run wire across to nearside lamp cluster to get l/hand indicators working (yellow)

I find it easiest to have the trailer board plugged in when I'm doing wiring, so I can see when it's working

Take your time, test bulb with leads or cheap multi-meter helps a lot
