    Hi guys,

Recently purchased a set of DEPO Angel Eye Projector Headlights for my 1987 E30. These were ordered into the country, direct from Germany, buy RomfordMOT on eBay. Now, I've found out these guys are absolutely **** useless, and don't know what they're on about! Great!! Now, I'm currently overhauling the electrics in the engine bay and cabin, as I have found a lot of redundant "scotch" connectors that lead to bare unterminated cables all over the car - no wonder I've had interesting readings on the dash and OBC.

Unfortunately, it was near impossible to purchase the projector headlights for a pre-1988 vehicle, so I had to get the for a 1988-on (Facelift) vehicle. I already knew there were going to be some differences in connectors, etc so I can't blame anyone but myself for that really.

The current difference I'm faced with is the connectors that connect up to the lamp holders, on a pre-1988 they are 3 pin plugs/sockets containing a Brown (Ground), White/Blue (High Beam), White/Violet (Low Beam). If I were to purchase (New or Used) a set of headlight plugs from a facelift E30, I can then get round this little issues and at least get the beams working again.

    High/Low Beam connectors:
    .

The real question of this topic would be; Included with the lights was a wiring loom, which I have read on other forums is absolutely **** useless too, and really it should be thrown in the bin, as you can't plug it in anywhere!

    The Wiring Loom:

Starting from the right hand side of the image, we have the Positive/Negative Battery Connections, followed by an InLine 15a Fuse, this the leads round to a 30a Relay, then onto the Angel Eye connections. However, also on the Loom, is another 2 pin headlight connector, which apparently is to go to "The position light of car bpdy harness" (quoted direct from the attempt of a wiring diagram they send, including spelling mistake!).

Now, from what I understand the fuse box in the car has a feed direct from the battery, which incidentally has a few free fuse slots available. This then runs into the relays etc located in the same box in the engine bay. If I were to take this apart would I then be able to use one of the free fuse locations, along with a free relay location and create my own custom wiring loom? I would then not need to tap into any existing wiring in the engine bay to put a couple of "Scotch" connectors, and have the relay exposed to the elements.

Has anyone installed such projector headlights before? How did you tap in to the electrics so that the Angel Eyes were on, once the car was running? I dislike the "Volvo" method of having lights running as soon as the ignition is turned to ACC, so would like some sort of soft start ideally, so that they only came on with the engine running.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

Quick update. I've managed to source a bucket load of headlight plugs and sockets, so will be getting these fitted over the weekend.

Anyone able to help with the rest? I'm looking at Relay Wiring Diagrams at the moment, so hopefully I can swap the included wiring loom for something a little more subtle.

    Sucess...I have found a solution

How-To will be posted once I have ironed out all of the details and wiring locations.

I now hate studying Wiring Diagrams!! 36 pages of them last night, all to customise one for my needs!
