It can happen to any e46 not just pre march 2000
As I said I took it to the indy they checked it out and just said the noise is suttle and a common noise for a manual transmission in this car....
they said the donut, and subframe mounts were fine.
Not sure they looked for the subframe tear.....though they would have checked it i would imagine.
is the floor tear the same thing?
I dont know what to do as I have had it checked....
Neal - all e46's in America were recalled from 98 - 06 due to there being weakness in the subframe
Tbh mate can't see yours having the subframe problem unless your cars been hammered around every corner as if it was on a racetrack, not enough torque on a 320 to damage the subframe
you got any pictures of what I should be looking for (and where - on the floor or frame? Just incase I can get under the car. Obviously if its a subtle crack or tear I wont know if its serious or may not see it.
RE the torque thats what I was thinking.
Just look for any cracks around there, that one has teared so that looks bad, but you get the idea, I honestly wouldn't worry though mate tbh
One in a million chance a 2003 320 saloon will have a subframe tear.
TBH sounds like my thud/clunk noise is something else.
Probably rear diff mount or propshaft guibo.
