I've been told by BMW one is broken. £235 + VAT to replace the pair. They wanted to know to order the part by 3pm to have them in for tomorrow.

    How does that price sound?

    Thanks,
    Andy

You can get both springs for way less than a ton, and are a piece of piss to do yourself

I would've thought you'd only need the bushes doing if you're getting uneven wear on the tyres as its usually only the front bush on the trailing arm that goes???
Getting them done at an indy would save you some notes too!

My local indie is now nearly as expensive as BMW. He buys the parts there and charges £55 + vat for labour! BMW give me 50% discount on labour cos of age of car.

Peugeot quoted £220 but couldn't guarantee cost of bushes and whether they would need a specialist tool so that didn't give me confidence.

Luckily the 3pm deadline was a real one so they can't get the part in till Saturday which has given me breathing space to do some research.

The BMW garage also said there was too much play in the n/s wishbone and quoted £295 to replace both as a special package.....I had one done at Peugeot a year ago and is fine, the other at the indie just over 2 years and the bushes have gone....

Advisory on track rod at £235 + vat.

Mechanic, friend of friend: £150 all in for rear springs. Around £80 to put new bushes in wishbone. Track rod is only £8 for the part but he needs to see it. Sounds much more like it! Only downside is that he is just off on hols so have to drive like this till 3rd July. BMW have refused to drive the car back to me (collected for the service) but he says that the spring parts will sit on top of eachother and so the car will be a bit lower on one side and just to bear that in mind - does that make sense?

10 minutes to change a rear spring
£60 for to change front wishbone bushes
£295 is a good price if wishbones are lemforder but does this quote include bushes? shouldnt they should be done to together?

Trouble is finding someone to do it for that price....but £150 including the springs is much less than BMW and the Indie would charge. I'm sure the wishbones are OEM and would include the bushes. I think the point for me is that one wishbone is still ok and the other is only just over 2 years old but the bushes have gone. So if I can get the bushes changed for £80 including parts it seems like a reasonable deal. Much cheaper than BMW and the Indie..... Like I say, I have no gear, no idea and pretty much no time to do this stuff myself.....
