Well after being unsuccessful at selling my 330Ci in August, i decided to go on a driving trip to italy in october, which went without a hitch, 2000 mile return trip and it didn't require any oil top ups, normally it takes 250-500mls every 1000miles, i was astonished, i guess it goes to show how motorway cruising is less stressful on an engine.

So seeing as it performed so well, that i've already converted it to LPG back in 2009, and it has only broken down on me once in 6 years and 70k miles, i've decided to keep it as my daily driver. Soooooooo I started to look at ways to improve it. Already have had H&R cup kit for a few years, and i installed the Z4 shifter late sept, 2 weeks ago ordered H&R anti roll bars........... then........ i saw this LSD on ebay for £550, from lithuania:

BMW e46 323i 325i 328i LSD 2.93 ratio limited slip differential diff track | eBay

I contacted the seller (who has good feedback) and long and short of it is i purchased a direct bolt on LSD for my 330 in 3.07 ratio, I'd have preferred > 3.15, but nothing higher was available.

I'm pretty sure the diff and subframe bushes are due for replacing on the 330, so am in the process of getting quotes for a total price, been quoted from one reputable BMW specialist in glasgow 6 hrs labour (@ £50/hr) for the whole lot, 4 hrs for subframe bushes and 2hrs to replace diff. Sound reasonable?

I'm hoping to have it all done by late january, and will post updates, so incase someone else had spotted the ebay LSD and were thinking about it they can keep an eye on this thread and my thoughts.

ps i dont get the time to post on forums very often anymore, so apologies if there is already a thread about this ebay diff......... if there is, em.... i hope its positive!

very interesting idea and a better ration too. These e46's aren't bad cars when they have been sharpened up a bit and it sounds like you are well on the way i too have h=R kit and arb's on my 330 which are a massive improvement over stock combined with the diff and its better ratio the 330 you have will be a nice thing.

I don't think I have heard of this before, so it'll be interesting to see how you get on.

Thought I'd post an update as I received a PM about the LSD.

Its still sitting in my living room waiting to get it fitted!! The seller is indeed Bimmertune, seems pretty legit, wanted to me check my diff output flanges as there are differences amongst 330i's. Ended up sending photos for him to check.

The delay is simply because the car is due for replacement of subframe bushes, so trying to find out if they & Diff can be replaced without dropping the rear axle carrier. If the rear axle needs dropped then I'm thinking I might as well have the subframe strengthening plates welded in from reddish motorsport at the same time IF there are signs of cracks.

BUT first I need to have the subframe inspected by Mprove, and I simply havent had the time to go up there, whilst staying in London and have the car inspected thoroughly. If all is well, I'll have their strengthening epoxy injected into the subframe/boot floor, then go ahead with the subframe bush renewal and LSD install.

I've got some time off in the next 2 months so hope to have it all done by end of Sept. Will post up in the thread once done

Oh btw, I fitted the H&R anti-roll bars, and OMG they are friggin amazing!! Much better step up in handling than just the H&R cup kit alone, much sharper and nose of car feels lighter now. I just wish I had done this earlier!

Installed myself, fairly straight forward, but I would recommend jack both wheels of an axle up together, to minimise the chance of damaging your end link. See my blog for some additional tips:

So I've been hearing that it doesn't add too much time to just drop the rear axle completely. So Looking for a bit of advice now as to what else I should get replaced or upgraded whilst everything will be down.

I've decided to go with Powerflex poly bushes in the axle carrier and diff where possible, predominantly so it they last longer, this isnt a job i want to have to do again for a long time.

Whilst the rear axle is down, I will also have the rear trailing arm bushes replaced, though I'm still debating on poly or OEM, M3 items fit i think.

So what else should I replace & upgrade whilst things are down????? Car will see the occasional track day:

So far I'm thinking the following:

    (1) Replace the Rear trailing arms themselves with upgraded adjustable units from ebay sellers....... or stick with OEM or only replace if required??

    (2) RTAB limiter kits like these: Turner Motorsport Rear Trailing Arm Bushing Limiter Kit (RTAB Shim Kit) - Turner Motorsport???

    (3) Any other bushes in the following diagram? all of them?? Don't ask me why but for some reason i bought a pair of bush No 3 ages ago:

Also gaskets 7 & 15 on the LSD will be replaced. Parts 8 & 9 are already installed on the LSD, Dust covers 12 and 13 I believe wont be accessible, they'll be behind the shaft seal (part 14) on the output shaft:
