    hi all got a 316 saloon and at 70 mph it is doing 4 to 4 1/2 revs is this normal?
    would changing the diff to a diffrent ratio help me lower the revs and is this possable i.e would another one fit
    i am not bothered about speed hence 316 not 328 so would like to get the revs down to do better mpg
    any idea's please

    That doesnt sound right to me. My old 316 used to do around 3250rpm at 70 off the throttle. Was bloody good on fuel on a long run

    i can't get it to do more than 35mpg on motorway

    might already have a different one on hence the high revs?
    or wrong gearbox possibly with wrong final drive in?

    The 4 pots and the 320 all use the small case diffs. I'll have a look into the ratios later.

    There should be a tag on the diff which states the ratio.

    my car is at work at the mow as i use van during the week but will have a look on the case the weekend and see if i can see anything

    You should have a 168mm diff with a 3.45 ratio
