Afaik the coilovers are shorter (& stiffer?) so the car will sit lower because of this reduction in spring height, or am I talking Friday nite $hite again?

coil over springs sit on a platform that is adjustable for height...the further down the shock that this platform is wound, the lower the car will sit.
as you can probably imagion,if the car is set very low in this way then if you need to jack the car up there is a danger the spring will dislocate off its seat...there is usually a smaller spring on the seat to take up the slack.
the suspension geometry will still need to be adjusted via a 4 wheel alignment once the desired ride height is settled upon.
