    Hi,

does anybody know what bilstein B4 shocks are like compared to an M Tech set up on for an E46.

I have B4's and Apex springs on my car, which seems alot better than standard, how will this compare to factory M Tech just out of interest.

How much of an upgrade would B6 or B8 bilstiens be?

    Cheers

On the e36 M-tech shocks are Bilsteins..I would think the same on the E46 too although I would not know wether they are B4's B6's or B8's

Anybody have an idea of how much an improvement a set of bilstein B8's would be over the B4's that I currently have?

As mentioned above I am reasonably happy with my current set up but I am still catching the bottom of the car occasionally when I push on and there is still a touch too much roll.

Would sticking with the B4's and fitting a set of eibach anti rol bars be a better option or should I really upgrade the shocks before doing anything else?

    Cheers

i think you might do well picking the brains of a race developers tbh...afaik you could fit an eibach or hotchkiss arb set up and eliminate body roll on the road in one fell swoop.
polyeurathane bushes all round will help too

That's true - having a good spring & shock set-up will not help cornering that much unless the anti-roll bars have either been beefed up or been polybushed (or both). Eibach bars are about £300, or polybushes are about £50 for both bars. I've done the polybush thing (Powerflex) and they really tighten things up - they make the standard bushes look like foam packing, and are quick to install. Def. worth a try

If you do decide on upgraded shocks, consider Koni FSD's - my brother has just fitted them to his E46 328i Saloon (complete with Eibach springs & Powerflex'd ARB's and RCAB's) and by his admission is awesome. i may be driving it in 2 weeks, so will report then

    Thanks for your help guys.

I know have bilstein B8 shocks on the car with the Apex springs as well as poly bushes on the front whishbones, rear trailing arms and front arb (would have got the back arb done but bushes were out of stock). Would have been great to fit a set of eibach arb's as well but the spending has to stop at some point.

I have not been on a long drive yet but the car feels so much tighter, stable and generally more fun to drive. So am very happy with the set up so far.

I am booked on a own car performance driving course at knockhill in a few months so hopefully it should stand up to that now.

    Cheers again for the advice.

Sorry they are not for sale. A mistake was made when the B4's were fitted and they had supposed to have been B8's all along, so when I called my garage they called the parts company who took them back and changed for the B8's.

The B4's are good value and were still an improvement over stock dampers but I am very happy with the B8's.

I now just need some decent tyre's, does anybody know if Toyo's are ok on BMW's.

    Cheers
