Is it me or it it reasonable to pay £520 to have your front bushes changed on a 2002 318? A certain place that promises to fit kwikly said I needed them and quoted me this price.
I checked out ebay and seem to be able to buy some powerflex bushes for £40 - that means I'd be paying £480 for fitting? Seems like a lot to me.
Is it really that hard? Could I do it myself? Do I need more thatn the £40 bushes? Am I missing something?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you are talking CABs, then that is extortionate. If you supply the Powerflex bushes to an independent, then they will charge £150 -£200 labour due to the removal of bushes from housings and pressing in the Powerflex ones. Even the dealer will not charge you more than £250 inclusive of supply and fit of OEM parts. You got a name of this garage...or have you just given it to us above?

they are extracting the urine mate.
any mechanic will be able to do these...i supplied powerflex bushes to my local and they fitted them for a ton...then i got the suspension 4 wheel aligned to sort my tramlining issues and am very happy with the results
    what i've felt,what i've known
never shined through in what i've shown.

Is it the E46 that you can buy the standard bushes fully installed with the wishbone no need to press out the old ones

Many members have carried out this procedure successfully by themselves

I would take the much cheaper option and purchase yourself some new lollipop holders that the bushes sit into, then purchase your powerflex bushes and ask a local garage to press them in for you. All you wiil have to do then is remove the undershield from the car undo the two lollipop bolts that secure it to the vehicle, pry of the old lollipop holder and bush and then refit the new ones

Probably cost you nearer 70 quid in total

WOW thats a rip off that. I had my bmw serviced yesterday and my F/N/S bush is split so i need to get that sorted. My brother is a mechanic and priced me a part up for £40.00 and is going to fit it himself. It is only about an hour job as well.

Some cheeky people out there. I have a problem with my starter motor on mine and the garage told me it was about a 3 to 4 hour job to replace and my brother just laughed at them.

Many thanks for your replies - very helpful. I will go down the local garage route. The garage name was in the post. A famous chain. I only went in for a puncture repair and could have come out over a grand out of pocket as they insisted I should replace all four tyres too. Just glad it wasn't my wife who went in!!!

I'll take my hat off to them in one respect as many fast fit centres wouldn't have even thought of advising on this problem but what they're trying to charge should be reported to the Head Office.

Go back and see if you can get a written quote, whilst you came away lucky some other poor chap/chapess may not be so wise and actually pay to have the work carried out

    Daylight Robbery!!!
