I had my discs and pads changed in march and they've started sqealing like stuck pigs - most notably under light braking around town - heavy braking and not a thing.

I'm using Ferodo DS (fast road, not track pads) on Brembo discs.

The place that did the brakes had the car back a couple of weeks ago and they stripped, cleaned and regreased everything - hey preston nothing. But a few weeks on and they've started squealing again - any ideas?

I bedded them - they had really light braking for the first 500miles or so, building up to gradually longer / harder stops - they were fine, but have gradually started squealing and they're doing my head in.

    Cheers for any advice

How old are the Brembo discs? Were they fitted at the same time as the pads?

if the discs are nearly new, it could just be the pads. Sometimes fast road pads dont bed in very well with normal driving.

I would say try using them hard for a few days and see if that does any good....

If not, it may be time to get some different pads, although applying copaslip to the back face of the pads is worth doing for sure

The discs and pads were all done at the same time - I have noticed that if you use them hard once, they don't do it as much.

If they keep doing it, I may ditch them for some OE once - although I'm not that keen on that option as the set cost £140!

£140 for a set of Ferodo fast road pads is a bit on the steep side...

Are the Brembo discs from the Max range, or are they the "Sport" discs from the High Performance range?

The pads were £70 each end - the best price I was able to get on them.

The discs are the Max jobbies - talking to most people and the guys from GSF, the Sport versions didn't seem worth the extra.

Used them in anger a bit today and they don't seem too bad - its worse when your dragging the brakes (if you know what I mean) in slow traffic.

I was wondering if the calipers could be sticking - would this cause the brakes to squeal?

£70 each end is not so bad...

Actually, there are some major differences between the Max and Sport discs. Max discs are standard Brembo Aftermarket discs, whereas Sport discs are zinc-coated drilled or slotted high performance discs.

Any serious (fast road or trackday) use of Max discs will result in warping and serious cracking.

Squealing brakes will most certainly not be caused by a sticking caliper. It's not actually a sign of a problem within the system but is just an alternative means of braking energy being dissipated into the system (vibration = noise). Unfortunately, it's not a pleasant thing to have on your vehicle. Try copper slip on the backside of the pads - this usually helps.

I'm going to try that and after that, think I'll just ditch them for some Textar's which came highly recommended in the first place.

    Cheers
