Hi, I have a 1999 E46 328se and have a rattle coming from the rear drivers side wheel area. The rattle sounds like a loose bit of metal sliding up and down, it only happens when i go over rough ground but stops when I brake (even over rough ground) which makes me think it is something to do with the brakes, have taken the wheel of and shaken everything but it seems nothing is loose. It's got my head going, thats for sure. If you are able to help in any way it would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Jason

how long has it been like it as it could also be the pins that hold the brake pad in

It's only rear drivers side so will take the wheel off tomorrow and have a good look, if it's any of your suggestions it will be the pins as the fellow I bought it off was very OCD about the car and only used quality items. Thanks for taking the time to respond mate. Cheers

That's what my rattling was. One of the pins that hold the caliper in the housing had rusted and snapped hence the caliper rattling against the rotor.
