I hope I am in the correct area.

I had to get the front discs and pads replaced on my car along with tightening up the back brakes and handbrake.

I also have to get the control arm replaced.

Can someone explain to me what the control arm does?

I think it has something to do with the brakes and wheels but not too sure.

Control arm is more to do with steering rather than brakes. Keeps the car perpendicular to the road when hitting bumps....which is the simplest explanation I can think of.

    thanks.

At my last MOT I was told there was a bit of play in the lower arm bushes seems now that its had it now though.

Now I posted recently that I noticed that my ABS light doesn't flash when I break hard and that the traction control light doesn't flash when I am loosing traction apart from on wet cobbly roads or gravel. Although both systems work fine.

    is this all related?

That's related to your ABS sensor/s. One for each wheel.

BMW have told they are a okay because they come on and go off when you start the car but in my last e46 (318) whenever I braked hard the abs light would flicker or went sharp around a corner the asc light would flicker but I never get the abs light flicker on this car and only occasionally get the asc light to flicker.

The only difference in cars is that my last one was a saloon 318 and this a coupe 323.

Probably different characteristics. Sounds like there is nothing wrong with your ABS system then.

yeah maybe I am being paranoid but when the ABS kicked in on my last car the peddle judder nearly ripped your foot off. In mu current car you can feel it pulsing but its not as violent although my last car was a german import which was converted for uk usage.

I wonder if things are different for their cars.
