Morning all, Had the run around regarding my 1998 reg (early model 520i ) ABS and traction lights showing. Fitted wheel sensor, then o/s/f wheel bearing, now being told ABS control unit required. Have located a pump/control unit , How difficult to fit ? It is mounted on the right side inner wing and is the early unit. Would appreciate some help. Barry

You dont need to replace the whole pump. You can unscrew the control unit from the front which means you dont have to disturb the brake pipes...
Just make sure the battery is disconnected before reconnecting the control unit. Also make sure the replacement unit has the same part number as the one you are replacing...

    Thanks Steve,
Some more info, I bought a control unit from a great company BM Autos and they sent me next day delivery for yesterday. The unit was nothing like mine (Had a 6 screw fixing and plug was in wrong place) I contacted BM and the told me I needed the earlier model and they offered to post s/hand unit on Monday but it comes complete, ( 4 hole fix ) If I can remove this control unit without disturbing fluid pipes I would be well pleased . What do you think ? Barry.

Yeah you should be fine mate. The last on I did was a 4 screw fixing on a 7 series and it just unscrewed off.
This link is for a 6 series but is the same principle..http://www.meeknet.co.uk/E38/ABS/Index.htm
    Well worth having a read...

Sorry to keep asking questions. Can you get the part number from it for me please. I might have a procedure on my Bosch computer for replacement...
