    there are 2 chassis rails that are underneath the drivers and passengers floor, these are the points that the car will scrape as i have found out whilst trying to cross the evils that are speed bumps
    however my 318is is stupidly low so that may be the problem

    I know the rails that you are talking about, roughly how low is your car please?

    well this is the thing i dont really know
    i have the hottuning coilovers and they are set pretty much all the way down
    so alot

    Same as mine. Those chassis rails scrape, and I have also been known to scrape the exhaust box as well....

    Ive got my saloon low on coilovers it does scrape on speedbumps and even when im driving along on horrible roads i have been known to "fling" sparks out the back, my best guess is that it would be the exhaust backbox scraping. I wouldnt reccomend you going stupidly low tho as too low can make the handling worse and tyres wear quicker. Over the winter when we had that ice i went through a new set of tyres in a month :-/
