Hi, what tyre is better than the bridgestone potenza s001 's, struggling to find a definitive answer as alot of people saying they are crap - on other threads people are saying the goodyears are no good either, is there a decent run flat tyre toher than the bridgestone that my bmw dealer are trying to flog me? Is there a michelin alternative like the michelin supersport - can you get them in run flat? Not too bothered about price - any definitive opions/answers appreciated.

    My car is 320d m sport (f30) 2013 yr / rear tyres are 255/40/r18 y

    Thanks, Jim

I dont think Michelin do much in the way of runflat tyres, certainly not in this size. If you wanted super sports you would have to go for regular tyres.

I didn't get on well with potenza either and Ive had both runflats and regulars on different vehicles.

    Your options are limited:
    - Goodyear
    - Pirelli
    - Falken
    - Continental
    - Dunlop

Run flats have stiffer sidewalls than conventional tyres. They all perform well in the dry, however the problem manifests in wet conditions. This is magnified when opting for low aspect ratio tyres like 35s and 30s. Goodyear's are harder compound and Pirelli's are traditionally softer. You have to find the right balance. I've got over 20k miles out of the nct5s.

Yes - potenza feel twitchy to me - especially when putting the foot down (say for instance coming out of a t-junction quickly) - I agree that would happen with most over-assertive driving (I'm no idiot boy racer - but I feel the bridgestones aren't the best - comparing them to michelins I've had on other cars.

Alot of people on various forum discussions say the goodyears are better (there's alot of conflicting views) do you think these are better then Jake?

Can the f30 18" msport wheel accept a conventonal tyre like the michelins then? Is this possible does anyone know?

If so then I will look at changing the whole set to them and report back.

    Any ideas?

    And thanks

E61 chassis is not the same as an E90 or F30. The handling characteristics are totally different. And there is night and day when comparing runflats and non-runflats. Michelin is a good all round tyre. My car is straight as an arrow and never required any steering correction, so no drama. However, it does not react quick enough and is 'sterile' especially in the wet. I put this down to having rear air springs rather the tyres.

I've always s been a fan of Goodyear f1s tyres. Had them on my Evos and seemed to work well. Gotcthem on my golf at the moment too. No complaints. The ratings must be some sort of guide for speed grip etc.

On my F30 Luxury I have Goodyear Efficient Grip Runflats 18inch, brilliant tyres, good grip, low noise and great ride comfort!
Car handles very well, I would not even consider changing to non Runflats, as the car handling is superior to the previous model.
Same size tyre all round., 225/45/18 91Y.

On my previous E90 I had Michelin Sport Runflats, staggered set up, I used them for 5 years, but do admit they were crashy But it was an Msport with stiffer suspension.

Let us know Lloyd would be interested to see - nice wheels that you have for sale (just checked them online) I've got the 400m 18" wheels and love the style of them, but I don't think the michelins are runflats.
