Some mercades do use a M62 charger the same as the DASC kit but there is a much more common one that is just a m45 charger like the mini but in a different casting, so make sure you get the correct one.

Here is a link to my Eaton set up but as its on the zone you will have to sign up if not already a member

E30 Zone - You are trying to access a restricted area.

    Thanks Matt

So... any developments? Do you have it back on? It did look like Appletree had another charger on pretty sharpish from reading. I guess the best thing would be to contact GKD or whoever it is. But without the car it is pretty pointless for me to do the contacting. Just info, info, info at the moment.

Been away a lot so not much progress on my car.
However, 318is(M44) now has SC fitted I noticed.

No heat problems occurred on my car and so far nothing noticeable on the 318is, there is a difference in the GKD Kit fitted(bypass valve) and what Mark and Appletree did so this may account for it for having less pressure when not being utilised and consequently heat to deal with. Pete(GKD) said he wanted to do some more testing which seems sensible to me.

The mini SC may not have the capacity of the bigger M62 but then they are readily available and used in several road cars with bigger capacity than the mini, I suspect cost and space would have been a significant factor in Mini going for the M45 and as far as impact on the car is performance goes it is very significant spinning up very quickly.

I'm away again for a few more weeks so hope when I get back I can grab some data from the 318is if not from my car. Obviously some data and some real road experience with the 318is would be more useful than the much much lighter car for those on here.

I was a bit confused on the brakes item as I seemed to recall my 318is coupe had the same discs as the 328 so on the 318is I didn't expect more than a pad upgrade.

I looked up on BMWfans and see that 318is coupe does have same discs as other 6cyl to 328 but the z3 and compact 4 cyls have 12mm not 22 mm disc which may explain why Mark picked that up on his Z3 for an upgrade, happy to be wrong but with all the subtleties of these models I thought it worth checking before advising.

Both of my builds had some sort of bypass or dump valve on them, the rotrex build runs a dual port turbosmart race dump valve mate for a porker GT turbo somthing or other with the throttle down stream of the charger. The Eaton build had the throttle up stream of the charger and a forge recirculating valve linking the inlet ( but behind the TB ) with the out let of the charger which should mean the charger is free wheeling (sucking what it blows as such) which as you say does take alot of load off during normal running at makes the car alot less snappy to drive.

the mp62 , used on the dasc, has a built in bypass, so when not under load it does indeed 'freewheel'. however as soon as you are loading the engine boost is instant. Heat build up was significant on mine once running above 7~8pse of boost. The other thing to remember is the dasc kit (mp62) charger moves alot more air then the mini 45 blower. the mini blower will literally run out of puff before the large 62.

Will be back to car in a week or so, whilst Pete(GKD) has asked I don't share data yet, torque graph was over the 175lb mark(@7psi'ish). M44 engine he says will be first. I did have a short drive of the 318is and it was noticeably quicker and smooth to pick up even with the 135k miles on the clock.

Hope fully he gets it completed and becomes happy for me to share data in very near future.
