thought id post this in here aswell incase anyone was interested in doing the same!

overall this took me around 10 hours to fit but thats with a good few breaks and a few snags so think if i did it again i could nearly half that time!

anyway heres some pics as i went!

all the kit laid out

had a laptop set up with the installation guide on

removing bits

upper manifold off

fuel rail removed

i hate wiring and ended up having to ring neil a couple of times for advice! so cheers neil

didnt have a clue what was what so had to label everything up with different coloured tape so i knew where they went back

lower manifold off

steel braided fuel lines fitted

new idler pulleys fitted

new gasket fitted

supercharger going in

and then how its been left till 2morro

once the bolts are tightened there isnt too much more left to do!
however there is a couple of small rubber hoses that i cant seem to find where they go!

well i carried on today! and she lives!!!!!!! however i broke the bleed screw and i snapped the aircon tensioner bolt

heres the pics!

manifold tightened up and fuel rail fitted

throttle body and maf fitted

air fiter on the elbow wouldnt allow me to refit the pipercross as its a touch to large but i'll sort that soon

belt refitted

my johnny age 5 diagram to help me

sheared off the aircon tensioner  so no aircon for the moment

and finished bar bleeding it! grabbed the camera to film the first start but it died! (sounded like a bag of nails the first start anyway!)

after adjusting the throttle cable i got it to idle ok and then went to bleed it and broke the bleed screw!
so you'll have to wait for a vid until i get another!

but it does sound mean when you rev it!

well changed the broken injector today and that sorted all the problems out so im chuffed to bits and took it out for its maiden voyage and im still speachless
its totally transformed the car!
another thing on the list of things to do was upgrading the speakers etc but i dont know how often that going to be used now as i have a new favourite tune!
heres a quick vid just after the 1st start up! only on a crap digi camera and it does it no justice!

as always comments good or bad are welcomed!

I'll do the same in a few months when I've got the money together! Not too far off atm. I must have spent hours over the last few days having a look around. The price of yours is around the same of the prices (and labour) of the M52 conversion I was looking at.

Did you have a BBTB?

#14 ·
a bbtb is on the shopping list for this month!

disco is in the middle of his m52 swap and i asked about his increase in insurance and there isnt much in it mine went up £188 and his was £240
but im happy i went the way i did!

i look forward to seeing which way you go!

That should increase the power even more! There are only really two issues with which way to go. The first is the cost. Swapping from an 328i donor car means I could make half my money back, the other issue is finding a DASC! But this idea of supercharging my M42 sounds really exciting, especially as I could do most of it myself.

I have a set of 6 328 pink injectors that are 21.5lbs good up to and over 300bhp

Car looking good as always dude, love your mods too!

trying to organise a local rolling road day so will post a scan of the results
this will be just to give me an idea of what its making before i get it mapped properly!

and heres a pic of how it looks now as it was a bit grubby in the install pics!

@mark you got any dyno results from yours? and what pulley did you have on yours?

#32 ·
replaced the cone filter with the carbon viper kit! not driven it yet but im hoping that will flow better and keep the intake temp down

and the next mod im considering is the plx gauge to keep things monitored

@mark i think reading your thread again im roughly at the same stage you were with yours im gonna be peplacing my spark plugs for higher power ones

did you look into replacing injectors? and where did you fit the mini non return valve? as i've never even thought of that!

gauge is an essential, do it quick. spark plugs need to be one grade cooler , not sure what you mean by higher power ?.

injectors were ok at this level of tune. the NRV goes in the breather line on the injectors, it stop blowback through them on boost, gives about 0.5psi

Air filters make alot of difference. I tested a few on the RR, ITG made the best power, 12hp over the Simota !

do you know how much boost you're making ? (accurately)

Did you fit a lightened flywheel ?

#39 ·
dont have the part number for the NRV. cant remember what end went which way either. easy enough to work out though if you blow through it.

have you upped your exhaust manifold size and exhaust ? sports cat ?
manifold helps keep it running cooler
still on the standard exhaust manifold with a full stainless system but with the standard cats still in there!
is it worth going for sports cats?
as before the FI plans it was a question i asked and people said that the m44 engine needed the back pressure and didnt run well with sports cats or with a de cat! :confused

#40 ·
you was informed wrong there, maybe on a turbocharged m44 , but a supercharger works slightly differently with regards to back pressure.

i think your current state of tune will give around 200hp.

get all the other smaller bits done, they all add up. exhaust is a biggy, especially for the cooling side of things
