hi, can any 1 help. my car has just in the last week started whinning ( like a police siren) from 1500rpm, there is no loss of power and no smoking from the exhaust, it was serviced 2 days ago, they used an engine flush and took it for a "thrash" they reported the noise disapeared, but it returned any thoughts?
have a listen under the bonnet with the engine running. it may be a bearing on its way out, maybe in the water pump or alternator?
you could, at your own risk!, take the belt off the front of the engine, start up the engine and give it a quick rev but only for a couple of seconds as the belt powers the water pump. that will let you know if its anything powered by the belt.
then with the engine off, and the belt off, turn by hand each of the pulleys that are run off the belt and feeil for grinding/free play and try wobbling the pulley etc.
