    I own a 1991 e30 316i and i was wondering if i could install a turbo on the engine.

There was a chap on E30 zone who turbo'd his M40 1.8 engine. I would have thought the process would be the same for your engine.

I really wouldn't waste your time turboing the 1600 lump. You would be much better off putting the 2.5 lump in and it would cost you half the price and give you just as much power and reliable power at that.

The costs are no problem. I dont want to swap engine because i dont have the space for it.. Thought it would be a fun project..
The power doesn't matter, im not in it for speed gain but for the coolness of a e30 316i with a turbo..
Cant find the e30 zone topic about the 318i with a turbo.. Can someone tell me what turbo e.d. i need to use?

It can be done, that's for sure. It'll also handle a fair bit better than the I6 cars, less weight up front.

    Hi guys!

Thanks! Will the manifold fit without any adjusting?
And will the standard exhaust fit right on the turbo?

Thanks for all the info so far!

How did the turbo project go? I'm thinking about doing it to my 316i. Did you ever make a build thread?

    Cheers.
